Your product

Materials & ingredients

Enter the cost you used, or calculate your share of a purchase. Use “each” for nails, staples, skeins, or packages when you know the fraction used. Ounces (oz) mean weight; cups, tablespoons and teaspoons use US measures. Weight and volume cannot be converted without an ingredient-specific density.

Read a receipt privately

Choose a PDF, JPG, PNG, or WebP file up to 10 MB. PDFs may contain up to 20 pages; read a selected range of at most 3 pages at a time. Text PDFs are read directly; scanned pages use local OCR. Images are limited to 16 megapixels and 8,000 pixels per side; PDF rendering uses at most 4 megapixels per page. No document is uploaded. Password-protected PDFs need an unlocked local copy. Recognition may take a minute and may misread receipts.

Check each description and price against your receipt. Read only relevant pages; repeated item lines are grouped for review, and summary/tax lines are excluded. Discounts and tax are not automatically allocated. Add only the items used in this product; then enter the purchased quantity and how much you used. Food: how many servings? Furniture: how many nails or staples? Crochet: how much yarn?

Other batch costs optional

Compare prices

Markup and margin, with real numbers.

Food: a batch of ten servings

If the entered batch cost is $20 and you can sell ten servings, the cost is $2 per serving. A 50% markup adds half the cost: $2 × 1.5 = $3. A 40% gross margin divides by the share of the price that covers cost: $2 ÷ 0.6 = $3.333…; the worksheet rounds the suggested price up to $3.34.

Craft: one crochet item

With $8.50 of yarn used, $12 of labor and $0.50 of packaging, the entered cost is $21. At 50% markup the price is $31.50. At 40% gross margin the price is $35. Neither calculation guarantees profit: include your relevant fees, waste and overhead.

Markup is a percentage of cost. Gross margin is a percentage of selling price. A 50% markup gives a 33.33% gross margin before omitted costs, not a 50% margin.
